Parks & reserves: Safari itineraries

If you happen to be the lucky one who can go on safari for a full month, congratulations: you can make the Grand Tour. Of course many options are available for a one-month trip besides the one proposed here. My Grand Tour will help you discover all the main parks and reserves and most of what Kenya has to offer in terms of wildlife. The same trip could be done starting off from Mombasa instead of Nairobi, as in the explorer's route for two weeks.

This itinerary includes a hike up to Mount Kenya's Point Lenana (16,350 ft or 4,985 m), the only one of the three peaks that does not involve technical climbing. The hike requires camping, and it takes five days from the park's gate near Naro Moru town to the summit and back. Theoretically the camp at the Meteorological Station is accessible driving a 4WD, but it is preferable to leave the car at the park gate. If you do not wish to hike or camp, you can just replace the visit to Mt. Kenya with adding more days in other parks like Samburu or Masai Mara.
The itinerary includes a two-night stay in Aberdare National Park, which will allow you to enjoy the night experience at Treetops and yet have another day to explore the park on your own.
When staying at Lake Baringo, you can make a day trip to Lake Bogoria and get back to Baringo to stay overnight, since there are no lodges at Bogoria. Alternatively, you can camp at Lake Bogoria.
