The tawny eagle is the most common and widespread eagle in open bush and plains. It looks similar to the steppe eagle, but can be distinguished by the yellow gape that extends just to below the middle of the eye. It can be found solitary or in pairs. Feeds on a wide range of prey, from termites to small mammals the size of a dik-dik. It also shares carrion with vultures and steals food from other prey birds.
